KAOS THEORY

Liu in action on the streets of Vancouver.
ballistic: ecks vs. sever
Kaos is in ebullient mood. Actually, it’s hard to imagine the young film-maker in any other kind of mood. But Kaos - his real name is Wych Kaosayananda but, in a bid to have a name western audiences could remember, he shortened it to its present form years ago - had every reason to be up. When I spoke to him, he was at the final-mix stage of his first Hollywood movie, a big-budget action pic called Ballistic: Ecks Vs Sever, which stars Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu and which is, by now, out on screens across the United States.

STAGES OF POST-PRODUCTION.

The movie opened stateside through Warner Bros in September, and is being licensed in Europe by Zürich-based Epsilon Motion Pictures. For a 28-year-old Thai with no previous English-language features to his credit, Ballistic: Ecks Vs Sever (the title refers to the names of the undercover agents played by Banderas and Liu respectively) is a pretty amazing debut. And the results seem to be living up to everyone’s expectations: to those of producer Chris Lee; of production company Franchise’s Elie Samaha; and, most important of all, of Kaos himself. “It’s in really good shape,” he said happily from an LA mixing suite in early July. “Our cut is a really, really tight 89 minutes…”
