MONSIEUR JEUNET'S WAR

a very long engagement

DUE OUT IN FRANCE IN OCTOBER, THE EAGERLY AWAITED A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT REUNITES DIRECTOR JEAN-PIERRE JEUNET WITH AUDREY TAUTOU, STAR OF AMÉLIE. PREVIEW IS PROUD TO PUBLISH THE FIRST PICTURES FROM THE FILM…

Published in 1991, Sébastien Japrisot’s novel Un long dimanche de fiançailles (A Very Long Engagement) had taken him four years to write and was, he said, in gestation for 16 years before that. But for Japrisot, whose career has seen major literary prizes followed by a decade of silence, there was nothing unusual about that.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s film has not been anything like as long in preparation, but it has taken two to three years to put together, with the Amélie director’s customary attention to detail - and with the French cinema establishment watching over his shoulder every inch of the way. Amélie was, after all, one of the most successful French films of all time, and any sequel was bound to attract attention.
