FACE THE FUTURE? The computer-generated Dr Aki in Disney’s Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Aki’s on-screen job is to help rid the planet of a race of dragon wraiths. In marketing terms, however, what she has to compete with are real (as opposed to photo-realistic) actors and actresses in sequel and superhero mode. Might have been more interesting if Hollywood’s actors had gone on strike…

SUPER-CHARGED In a summer dominated by sequels (Jurassic Park III, American Pie 2, Dr Dolittle 2, Rush Hour 2) and high-profile remakes (Planet of the Apes), Rat Race is an original: featuring Whoopi Goldberg and Lanai Chapman (pictured left) along with a host of other stars, it marks Airplane director Jerry Zucker’s return to comedy in one of those multi-story action comedies that were popular in the sixties. Should be fun.
