DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Directed by Simon Wells, the great grandson of HG (who wrote the original novel), DreamWorks’ The Time Machine is the first version in 40 years of this, the granddaddy of all sci-fi stories (the last, starring Rod Taylor, came out in 1960). The new version stars another Australian, Guy Pearce, and also marks the movie debut of singer Samantha Mumba (with Pearce, left).

MEETING HIS MATCH? Much talked about in the advance publicity for The Mummy Returns, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson got surprisingly little screen time in the film itself. Not to worry, though: now he’s got his own movie. In The Scorpion King, he plays a hired killer (betcha didn’t know they had them in 5000 BC) protecting the tribes of Egypt.
