Having committed the unpardonable sin of using magic in the real world to get rid of his insufferable Aunt Marge, Harry is whisked off by the Knight Bus to the Lucky Cauldron pub. But Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic, doesn’t punish him. Instead, he sends Harry straight back to Hogwarts, the only place he will be safe from the mysterious Sirius Black, who has escaped from Azkaban and is believed to be looking for Harry.
So Harry has to share his third year at Hogwarts with the fearsome Dementors, the guards from Azkaban, who suck the souls of their prey and seem especially interested in Harry. Then there is a new master, Professor Lupin, who may be linked to Sirius Black. And there is the small matter of Harry, Ron and Hermione having to visit the Shrieking Shack, the most haunted building in Britain…

Harry, Hermione, Ron and their arch-enemy Draco Malfoy are played, as in the first two films, by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Tom Felton, with Harry Melling also returning as Harry’s spoilt Muggle cousin, Dudley Dursley.
Harry’s mean-spirited uncle and aunt are played, as before, by Richard Griffiths and Fiona Shaw, with Julie Walters and Mark Williams returning as Ron’s Mum and Dad. The only major newcomer in the Muggle world is Pam Ferris as Harry’s Aunt Madge, with whom he eventually becomes so exasperated that he blows her up like a balloon.
