TAKING CONTROL
The Life and Films of Ashley Judd
Ashley Judd was born on April 19, 1968, into a family that had lived for seven generations in the Eastern Kentucky town of Ashland. Her mother, Naomi, subsequently teamed up with Ashley’s older sister, Wynonna, to form the hugely successful Grammy-winning duo The Judds. The actress studied at the University of Kentucky, majoring in French, and appeared in a trio of supporting roles (two on TV, one in a film) before making her big-screen breakthrough in Ruby in Paradise (1993). Her starring role opposite Tommy Lee Jones in Double Jeopardy (1999) finally confirmed her as a major Hollywood star.
Since then, Judd has combined a movie career with TV work and regular theatre appearances, and is currently starring in the Broadway revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She married Dario Franchitti in December 2001 and lives in Kentucky. Her next movie role will be as socialite Linda Lee Porter in the Cole Porter biopic De-lovely.
